A family-friendly celebration of Easter traditions will be held on Roger McGuire Green at Pack Square Park! Easter on the Green features a large scale Easter egg hunt for kids, races, games and creative activities in the Earth Fare tent. Various downtown businesses have added a little fun to the egg hunt by providing gift certificates and freebies that will be placed in eggs. Of course, the Easter Bunny will make an appearance to visit with children and pose for family photographs. Plus, there will be kid-friendly music and entertainment. And, it’s all free! The Asheville Downtown Association’s commitment to developing top notch, quality events in Asheville continues with Easter on the Green.

The 14th annual festival is set for April 29 – May 3 where the French Broad River meets the Appalachian Trail at the beautiful Hot Springs Campground & Spa. Musical acts include Great American Taxi, Snake Oil Medicine Show, Sol Driven Train, James Justin and Co., WSNB and many more great regional and national recording artists.

This annual 1 day event includes up to 100 arts and crafts booths as well as a full music stage with acts scheduled from 10am till 10pm. Music ranges from Gospel to Bluegrass to Rock. ( a full schedule can be seen at area sponsors) A children’s area with inflatables and games for kids adjoins the main festival area. Homemade Barbecue is featured but there are many other great foods available. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at area sponsors or through the Erwin High Band.

It’s time to pull out those capes, tights or super-powered suits of armor! The Asheville Art Museum is hosting the second annual FANATICON, a free event for fans of comic books, science fiction, fantasy and pop culture. FANATICON boasts a full schedule of programming, including panel discussions, costumes, games, live musical performances and more! Over 70 artists and vendors will be on hand, promising an amazing opportunity to interact with Asheville’s own independent comic book creators and to shop for comics, graphic novels and collectibles.

The annual Montford Music and Art Festival will take place in the NPS-designated Montford Area Historic District on May 21. The festival celebrates the rich musical and artistic heritage found in Montford, Asheville, and the region with approximately 4,000 annual attendees. All musical acts have some connection to Montford and a number of the vendors do as well. The festival is promoted in celebration of Preservation Month by the Buncombe County Historic Resources Commission.

Garden Jubilee offers over 200 vendors selling handmade arts and crafts, 1000’s of plants and items to enhance your outdoor living area. Nurseries selling many varieties of annuals, perennials, vegetables, trees, shrubs, and hard to find plants will be located on every block of the festival. A great way to enhance the beauty of a garden is to add garden ornamentation. Vendors will be located on the wide sidewalks of Historic Downtown Hendersonville from Sixth Avenue to Second Avenue. Main Street will be closed to traffic from Second Avenue to Caswell Street, with vendors lining both sides of the street. There will also be delicious food to satisfy any appetite in the food court, located between Barnwell & Caswell Streets.

The folk festival honors Carl Sandburg and his preservation of traditional folk music. Sandburg began playing the guitar in the early 1900’s to enhance his lectures. He played the guitar, banjo and harmonica and collected a series of folk songs, which he published in his book “The American Songbag”. The talented musicians performing at the festival are continuing the American tradition of live folk music performance.
