Understanding and rebuilding your Asheville NC credit score
Before you look to purchase a property in Asheville NC, check into your credit score. Because your credit report is the key component of many credit scoring systems, it is very important to make sure it’s accurate before you submit a credit application. Errors can prevent you from obtaining credit and should be dealt with as soon as possible. In order to obtain copies of your credit report, contact the three major U.S. credit reporting agencies:
- Equifax: 800-685-1111 or 888-873-5392; PO Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374-0241
- Experian (formerly TRW): 888-397-3742; PO Box 2104, Allen, TX 75013-2104
- Trans Union: 800-916-8800 or 800-888-4213; PO Box 2000, Chester, PA 19022-2000
Credit reporting agencies may charge you up to $9.00 for your credit report. There are also numerous package deals which will give you access to reports from all three agencies. In addition, due to a recent amendment to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you are entitled to one free copy of your credit report once every 12 months (year) at www.annualcreditreport.com.
